Brighton – East Sussex Is A Major Beach Vacation Destination

Brighton – East Sussex is located on the South Coast of Great Britain in East Sussex. This area has been a popular tourist destination for years and in fact, became a health resort as early as the’ century. It was at this point that it became a single day destination for those looking to get relaxed and revitalized. In the’40s this area became more popular as a result of the railroad and experienced major population growth over the next hundred years.

Over 8 million people visit this beach town each year. This town is also popular for conventions and organized functions including meetings of the British labor party. This area is also recognized for its academic excellence. There are two major universities in the area.

Brighton has been a popular destination for a very long time. In fact, it is mentioned in the Domesday book though is referred to as Bristlemestune. An interesting fact is that at the time of the writing in the Domesday book, which was a major survey of 1500s conducted to determine taxation, this area was charged with tax of 4000 Herring.

The popularity of this area started in the 1780′s as a result of a suggestion by a doctor that his patients use seawater to cure their ailments. A health resort grew out of this and was one of the first organized health resorts in England. At this time a fishing village was also developed.

This area was revitalized in the 1700s. During this period of time a Dr. Russell began prescribing seawater, to his patients. This spurred interest in the area and by the 1780s development started in the area, including a fishing village, which is today’s resort of Brighton.

The onion domes and other architectural accents make this home appear more like and Indian palace than the home of a British King. It was here that King George IV would entertain his lady friend who happened to be a married woman. It is rumored that he desired to marry her but due to her religious beliefs she could not get divorced and marry the king.

The Royal Pavilion is one of Britain’s more popular tourist attractions and is symbolic of the affect this area has on those that visit it. There is still an alluring presence as it was during the life of King George. It is this alluring beauty that attracts over 8 million tourists a year. The beaches, of Brighton are a great place to visit.
