Enjoy The Magic of Mallorca

Some call it Mallorca – others Majorca.  Although in fairness locals know it as the former whilst British tourists tend to use the latter.  But either way there is no doubting that this delightful island is a hot favourite with tourists from around the world.  Particularity the UK and Germany which account for the bulk of visitors here during the main summer season.  Which runs from May through until September.

Mallorca is the biggest of the four Balearic Islands – a group which also includes Ibiza, Menorca and Formentera.  Boasting fantastic scenery – with pine clad mountains and glorious golden sandy beaches abounding.  Attributes which help to attract around 6 million visitors a year.

The island is kind of split into two halves – with the south still home to the sort of all day English breakfast tourism you may have thought went out with the 80´s.  Whilst the north attracts a more moneyed and refined type of guest to the historic town of Pollensa and the region of Alcudia.

La Palma is the capital and sole international airport and is a very historic city with some fantastic old buildings.  Most visitors though just pass through on their way to their resort destination.

Famous guests have been visiting the island for centuries.  And we’re not just taking about Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta Jones.  As the island was once the haunt of Robert Graves, Frederic Chopin and Joan Miro amongst others.  And is still a sanctuary for creative and artistic types.

Modern tourism first took off her in the 1960´s – and has quickly expanded to become Mallorca’s main industry.

These days the bulk of the best hotels and holiday villas in Mallorca are located in and around Pollensa in the north of the island.  Which is a fascinating little town and a former Roman settlement.  And today is home to a wealth of chi chi bars, restaurants and shops.

Puerto Pollensa is located around 8km away on the coast and is the sister coastal resort to Pollensa.  Set against the hugely atmospheric backdrop of the Tramantura Mountains.  With 3km of golden sandy bay and a lively marina area which is home to some of the best restuarants in the resort.

It’s easy to get to Mallorca as the island is serviced by most of the main budget  operators in the UK and flights to the island are available cheaply from across the UK.
