Lanzarote´s Leading Hotels

If pampering is an important part of the holiday experience tourists can choose from five 5 star hotels in Lanzarote. These range from one of the original hotels to open on the island, the Gran Melia Salinas, to the Hesperia which has been running since 2004.

The Hesperia is an impressive modern hotel, with a huge range of facilities, including free WIFI available throughout the premises. It is located in Puerto Calero, close to the exclusive marina of the same name. In keeping with many five star establishments these days, it has a spa and wellness centre, where stressed guests can unwind through a number of treatments and massages.

One of its most unique services at present is the availability of a pet room, allowing guests who don’t like to leave the dog at home the opportunity to holiday with their four legged friend. All the usual facilities that form part of the luxury hotel offering are offered here, such as four swimming pools, four bars, a gymnasium, three restaurants and a beauty centre.

There are two five star hotels in Playa Blanca to choose from. One is the Gran Melia Volcan, a sister hotel to the Gran Melia Salinas. Laid out in the form of a Canarian village, the Melia Volcan also has a replica volcano outside its main entrance. It is close to the relatively new Rubicon Marina and offers a good range of quality accommodation. There is also a spa on-site with its own Turkish hamam.

The Princesa Yaiza hotel can also be found in Playa Blanca and has an excellent reputation. It sits in a mature tropical garden overlooking the beach at Playa Dorada and has all the usual attributes of a quality hotel, such as three swimming pools, eight restaurants and a gym. But it also has an up to the minute thalassotherapy spa and a very popular kids club, thus making it an ideal destination for a wide range of travellers, from families to honey moon couples.

The first five star hotel was the Gran Melia Salinas, located in the resort of Costa Teguise. It has several unique features that make it stand out from the rest, such as the lagoon style swimming pool that was designed by César Manrique, a Lanzarote artist and architect of international acclaim.  His influence pervades the hotel today, with its lush internal garden another example of his design credentials.

The fifth luxury hotel on the island is the Gran Hotel in Arrecife. This is the only building on the whole island that is taller than a palm tree and as a result its Altamar restaurant has incredible views of the island. The Gran Hotel further benefits from a beach right on its doorstep, a spa and wellness centre and an elevated swimming pool.
