What Do Car Insurance Dollars Pay For?

No matter how you pay for car insurance, you probably pay a pretty hefty sum of money for car insurance. While it is possible to lower the amount that you pay by shopping around for insurance, you may still wonder what all those dollar give you. In short, you get peace of mind for the dollars you will pay. The long answer may help you to better understand the final destination of your premiums.
In the first place, by having liability insurance on your car, you are meeting the financial responsibility laws of your state. These financial responsibility laws vary vastly by the amount and types of coverage that are required, but all states require that all drivers be covered with personal injury and property damage insurance on their car. Let this coverage lapse for even a day and some states will cancel your registration or driver’s license until you prove that you have insurance coverage in place and pay an administrative fee or fine.
Driving without car insurance, however, can cost you much more than just a fine. If you are in an accident, you can be held financially responsible for the other person’s vehicle and medical expenses. In addition, you will likely be ticketed for driving without insurance. These expenses can far outweigh anything you might pay in insurance fees.
In addition you will have to pay to have your own vehicle repaired or replaced. In the interim time, you may have to pay for a rental vehicle to take you to and from work and fulfill other duties for which you need a vehicle. This can sometimes be several weeks. The cost you pay for the rental vehicle is often a significant amount of money.
In addition, the comprehensive coverage on your vehicle covers it in the event of vehicle theft, vandalism or if windows are broken and need to be replaced. In many areas car theft is far more common than we would like to think. If your car is stolen, it is not usually recovered without some damage. Many stolen vehicles are eventually wrecked and then abandoned. Others are stripped and sold for parts.
Newer vehicles are often required to have comprehensive coverage by the loan company. If you do not have the insurance the finance company will purchase their own insurance on the vehicle that offers you no coverage, but will pay off the loan if the vehicle is damaged or stolen. This insurance is very costly and will be added to the end of your loan on the vehicle.
The best way to find the cheapest car insurance is to comparison shop by asking for quotes for insurance on line. Many companies offer free quotes just for asking. Get several of the quotes and find the best price for your situation. While you can get quotes without giving personal information, you will get the most accurate quotes by giving all the requested information. Compare each quote to find the best price.
The price that is paid for peace of mind can often be less by comparison shopping for insurance.

Buying a used car or truck is simply a matter of necessity for many individuals and families. While in the past many used cars had the well deserved reputation of being clunkers, these days they are increasingly more reliable. Another positive for used car buyers is that the gap between used and new car prices is widening.
An often unexplored avenue for someone seeking a used car is the car rental industry. Buying a used car from these companies is not much different from buying from an individual or car dealer. The same checks must be performed to ensure roadworthiness and reliability. There is however growing support for the idea of individuals buying their cars used from rental agencies.
Advantages of Buying from a Rental Car Company
The landscape is practically littered with car rental companies jockeying for market share. It is important to remember that the standards of each company may vary, and you should seek to buy only from reputable enterprises. Advantage s of buying your used car from a rental agency includes:
They are usually better maintained than privately owned vehicles There is usually a wide selection to choose from The company usually keeps meticulous records regarding servicing, accidents etc. They are usually sold after two years of service to bring in new models They usually come with what is left of the manufacturer’s warranty
The Disadvantages of Buying a Used Rental Car
The disadvantages are pretty much the same as those for buying from an individual or dealer. There is of course the added element of uncertainty since they are usually driven by so many different people. Disadvantages include:
Accidents that cause minor damage may not be reported There is no way of knowing how the car may have been handled by any of the various renters Prices tend to be higher than they would be for the same model and year car at a dealer. Unlike used car dealers also, the car rental companies are rarely willing to haggle.
What You Should Do Before Buying
If you plan to buy a used car or truck from a rental car company there are steps you must take to protect yourself. These include:
Have your mechanic properly inspect the car on a lift Perform a vehicle title search or ask for a history report Take the car for a test drive to see how it handles
Even if you pay an independent mechanic to inspect the car and then decide not to buy it, you should not consider it a waste of money. This probably saved you repair bills and headaches in the long run. Keep in mind that damage may be repaired at the car rental company’s own shop, and may not even be reported. A proficient mechanic should be able to spot even small telltale signs of repair.
There are many buyers of used cars and trucks from rental companies that are happy with their purchases. Many people are initially hesitant to buy from rental companies, possibly because of witnessing deliberate abuse of rental cars. Be sure to buy from a well known car rental company and follow the advice provided above. This way you too could be happy if you decide to purchase from a car rental company.

Rental Car insurance : Is it really Worth Buying?

If you don’t intend to try and hoon your rental Taurus, you might wonder if you’re covered in the case of unintentional damage. With so many options at the car rental counter, it may be tempting to buy whatever insurance protection is available to safeguard your trip. But many travelers don’t realize they’re more than likely duplicating coverage they already have.
Properly insuring a rental car can be confusing, frustrating and downright daunting. Unfortunately, many consumers do not even think about car rental insurance until they get to the counter, which can result in costly mistakes—either wasting money by purchasing unnecessary coverage or having dangerous gaps in coverage.
We’ve heard many versions of how rental car coverage works, including a belief that you do not need car insurance when you’re in your home state, when you’ve got a good driving record and if you’re first name is Ted. The best thing to do is to call your insurance agent and credit card company in advance. Just because you’ve used a gold or platinum card in the past, don’t assume that it still offers the same protection plans — the cards’ insurance benefits can change.
States have minimum age requirements for renting a car and most major rental car companies refuse to rent a car to someone who is under 21 and in some cases under 25. In addition, some rental car companies now investigate your driving record and/or credit history so check with the rental car company before picking up the car. If you choose not to buy the waiver, make sure your coverage includes collision, comprehensive, liability and loss of use (a fee rental companies charge for the income they lose when the car is out of commission). Usually, auto insurers don’t cover loss of use, but some credit cards do.
The truth lies nowhere in between. According to the Boston Globe, many personal auto insurance plans actually cover most, if not all, of the damages. The collision damage waiver, also known as optional vehicle protection or loss damage waiver, can cost as much as $19 per day. This is not technically an insurance product, but instead shifts liability for collision damage from the person renting the car to the car rental company. This also covers for “loss of use,” or time a damaged car can’t be rented because it is being repaired.
Waivers, however, can become void if the accident was caused by driving illegally or on unpaved roads. If you have auto insurance and credit cards, loss or collision damage waivers are largely unnecessary because they usually duplicate coverage you already have. But know exactly what you’re covered for before you get to the counter, or you could be in for some unpleasant surprises if you do have an accident. You’ll have to call your agent to check, but it should be included in most comprehensive plans.
For those who don’t own a car but are frequent car renters or borrowers, another option for avoiding repetitive insurance fees is non-owner liability policies. These can cost anywhere from $200 to $500 a year. It’s also possible that your credit card covers the damage, with American Express offering a coverage plan. If your credit card company automatically doesn’t offer the service, you might want to check to see if it is an option as it may be cheaper than what the rental companies offer. If nothing you’re enrolled in covers it, then you might want to consider some options Before you rent, check with your credit card companies to see what kind of coverage they offer if you charge your rental. Some conveniently offer full rental coverage for a relatively small fee, or even free, depending on the card.

Before hitting the road, every new driver must be aware of the importance of acquiring car insurance. It is not only a responsibility, but it is also unlawful to drive without car insurance. Most new car drivers are faced with expensive insurance premiums. When searching for car insurance, new drivers should take the time to find out how they can acquire the best insurance at the best price.
There are a number of reasons why car insurance is expensive for new drivers. Insurers consider new drivers more risky because they are less experienced. Less experience can result in car accidents, traffic violations, and possibly a speeding ticket. Research has shown that young males are more reckless drivers than young females. Statistics tend to affect premium costs
The following is a list of helpful tips to lower new driver car insurance premiums: . If you are unable to acquire a low insurance premium, one way to lower your future premiums is to maintain a clean driving record. You can do this by avoiding traffic violations and obeying traffic laws. Make sure you do not get a speeding ticket. Once you have proven that you are a safe driver, you will be able to lower your premium. Most auto insurance companies will lower the premium of a new driver after three years of driving experience without any traffic incidents.
Many parents add their children to their policy. If you are going to add a new driver to your policy, make sure the driver understands what car insurance involves. Show a new driver how only one traffic violation can increase insurance premiums. You can require that the new driver pays the premium. This will give the driver incentive to obey traffic laws.
The type of car you own will affect your premiums. For instance, an expensive sports car will have a high premium. If possible, a new driver should opt for a modest car
Insurance companies will include mileage as a factor in setting premiums. Keeping mileage low will keep your premiums low. For teenagers, parents can set time limits regarding how long they can use the car.

Is It Good to Have Simply Liability Insurance For Your Truck

There isn’t a single person who drives that does not have auto insurance. I suppose there could be a few exceptions but generally if you get caught driving without insurance you’re going to be a lot of trouble. Most states, like the one I live in, Oregon, requires that you have insurance on your vehicle at all times you can’t even register your vehicle without car insurance.
If you lease or finance a new or used automobile, you have to have full coverage on the car or truck. On the other hand if you own your car or truck that you don’t have to put full coverage on it, you can choose liability only if you want. This is very inexpensive, but not always the best idea.
Most automobile insurance policies automatically have liability insurance enclosed in them. liability insurance is used to cover any damages that are your fault if there is an accident.
This is the bare minimum that you can get when you buy. If you didn’t have liability insurance and got into an accident, you would be responsible for all the damages out of your pocket. having liability insurance, though, makes it so that your insurance company has to pay all the damages less the deductible that you have on your policy. It is truly dependent on your policy coverage in your insurance company.
If it is your determination to just get liability insurance, your insurance company won’t be obliged to give you any money to get your vehicle fixed if somebody else does the damage. why all rights the other person should have liability insurance as well, and if they do then the money to fix your car will come from their insurance company.you never know what will happen on the road as some individuals do drive without insurance. If that individual were to be involved in an accident with you, you may be out of luck.
You can sue them, of course, but if they don’t have adequate money to buy the insurance for liability, they in all probability will never pay any assessment against them.
If you can afford it, it is always the best option to have full coverage insurance on your vehicle but sometimes this option is just way too expensive. Lots of times kids just starting out life, have this bare minimum coverage, but they also don’t have a vehicle that’s worth very much. As they get older though, and become more able to afford more expensive cars, it is a really good idea to have more than just your everyday liability insurance. just as when you buy a home or life insurance policy, you must always keep in mind things that could happen because tragedy could happen at any moment .
Cover yourself in every way you can, and you will be glad that you did.
