Getting to Cork for a short break is easy as there are direct flights with Jet 2 Airlines who operate a regular service from Newcastle to Cork and a great fares. When you get there you have a great selection of accommodation to choose from. There are Bed and breakfast properties to five star luxury in the Hayfield Manor Hotel located a short walk from the centre of Cork.
Cork got its name from the Irish work corcach which when translated means marshy place. Cork today is very different and is now the second largest city in the Republic of Ireland. The Rive Lee flows through the city and joins the Lough Mahon and helps create one of the largest natural harbours in the world. Cork is still a major seaport and has lots of quays and docks
Originally founded by St Finbarr some time in the sixth century its charter was granted in 1185 by King John. Cork became an important trading port with the Scandinavians however this also attracted unwanted visitors such as Vikings and Norsemen who attacked Cork. The city was once fully walled and some of the wall remains today.
Weather in Cork is generally mild all year with no excessive extremes in Winter or in Summer. The climate is generally mild, moist and can be changeable. Cork has a lot of foggy days and despite this is still the sunniest city in Ireland with an average of almost four hours of sunshine in the summer months.
Whilst visiting Cork for your short break you will find lots of things to do and see. The architecture in Cork is particularly impressive and you can see many of the beautiful buildings if you take a tour bus around the city. The most famous building is probably the Church Tower of Shandon, which dominates the north side of Cork. St Patrick’s Street is a pedestrian friendly route through the main shopping area. Make sure you visit Blarney Castle, Charles Fort and you could even visit the Greyhound Stadium one evening
Cork has the usual quota of fast food restaurants you would see in most cities around the world. There is also a good selection of mid price family owned ones offering good value food at a good price. For those wanting something a bit more special you will not be disappointed with the choice. There are plenty of pubs and bars and nightlife to keep anyone happy.

This year more and more tourists are looking for new destinations which offer something found nowhere else or, at least something other than the popular vacation on a beach. Under the current conditions large numbers of folk are, sadly coming to the inevitable conclusion that they have a great deal less money for investing in a family vacation and are, obviously, forced to making cutbacks to stretch their money further. One way of reaching this objective is to seek out a cheaper resort. In the following article I introduce you to the British city of Birmingham. With favorable exchange rates Birmingham hotel accommodation is much cheaper than last year.
You will find the city of Birmingham in the county of England known as the West Midlands and the folk who live in the city are known as “Brummies”. The dialect of the Brummy sounds very similar to those of other northern English cities and it can be rather difficult to understand what is being spoken a problem which is made even worst if if you have not heard these accents before. Happily nearly all folk from Birmingham are extremely kind, helpful and polite and do their very best to explain so if necessary don’t hesitate to approach people about directions and help or assistance with bed & breakfast in Birmingham.
Birmingham possesses an excellent number of places to visit and things to do including some highly interesting museums and art galleries, such as the Museum of the Jewellery Quarter, Barber Institute of Fine Arts, Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery and the Thinktank in the Eastside. The city of Birmingham also features an incredible number of hectares of open spaces and parks, Sutton Park being the largest having 970 hectares it is also the largest urban nature reserve in Europe.
The city of Birmingham features a varied and vibrant night life with many restaurants, bars, cafes and nightclubs. You will find some of the most popular in one of Birmingham’s squares, Victoria Square, Centenary Square, St Martin’s Square, Rotunda Square, Chamberlain Square, the historic Old Square at Corporation Street and the Gas Street Basin. Gas Street Basin is the central hub of Birmingham’s intricate canal systems. The city has about 32 miles of canals with a total of eight canals which were constructed during the 18th century and remained in industrial use until the nineteen seventies. Today the Gas Street Basin has been renovated and regenerated and is now a highly popular visitor attraction.
As an alternative to bed and breakfast why not consider hiring Birmingham apartments. If you If you are in the process of planning a vacation in Birmingham you should know that Birmingham’s international airport is approximately eight miles east of the center of the city just off the A45 and near the M42 (junction 6). You will easily find a respectable number of hotels and b & b’s reasonably close to the airport.

Got a spare few days off work? What do you do, do you stay at home or do you join thousands of other people who regularly benefit from the cheap flights available with the low cost airlines and enjoy a hotel break
Airports that were under used or considered unpopular now have flights arriving from all over Europe. These previously unpopular or uneconomical airports have now expanded on the back of the boom in low cost airlines and their network of flights around Europe.
The choice of destinations is now larger than they have ever been and you can jet off cheaply by booking a bargain flight then getting some accommodation online and jetting off for the weekend.
The possible problem with overseas trips on the low cost airlines is the flight times. If the flight leaves in the early afternoon or morning the return flight has to leave earlier to get back to collect other passengers. Generally if a flight is in the early afternoon the return flight will be late morning or early afternoon. This means when you wake you could just be left with enough time to get breakfast in the hotel before you have to set off for the airport for your return flight. This would only leave you with a few hours the day before to enjoy your destination.
A lot of people get caught up in the sound of an overseas short break by air because it sounds more impressive than a weekend break in the UK. Perhaps you are worried about the weather and think it would be better in an overseas destination.
You can get lots of flights within the UK and Ireland to some really interesting locations and with a greater number of flights you can leave at an earlier time and return on a later flight giving you more time away and not in the airport.
There is a fantastic choice of quality destinations in the UK and Ireland that can offer it’s own unique experience for the visitor. Some of the destinations include Edinburgh, Dublin, London, Cardiff, Belfast, Manchester and many more.
Why not spend more time away at a UK destination than in the airport. You do not have to take the plane you could drive or take the train. More and more hotels offer more than just a room for the night. You could even book a murder mystery weekend or visit a theme park or spend the day on the Orient Express. There are lots of different hotel break options available.
