Are you traveling to the Gold Coast area of Australia? If you are, you are really in luck. Gold Coast tourism is some of the most varied in the entire country. This is one of the reasons why it is one of the most popular places to visit when people travel to Australia. A look at some of the attractions you can experience and activities that you can do while you are there may help you narrow down your plans in advance. This can be the key to making sure you get the chance to do everything you have wanted while you are on holiday.

If you are unsure of where the Gold Coast is, it is not hard to find. It is a large region that begins at the border with New South Wales and continues along the coastline to Brisbane. Because there are so many varied environments in the area, there are a number of different natural and man-made attractions as well. Whether you love the rain forest, traveling out onto the water or spending time at theme parks and athletic events, there is something for everyone in the Gold Coast region.

If you are planning on visiting the Gold Coast, you will be happy to know that the area has one of the best climates in the country. This adds to its appeal for out of doors enthusiasts. Whether you want to spend time in Gold Coast City itself or tour the countryside, there are many different things that you can do to pass the time. If you plan to accomplish one or two activities a day, that should be enough for you to thoroughly experience your chosen activities. You won’t feel quite so much like you are rushing from one activity to another.

In fact, planning can be your best bet. You may want to book certain tours especially during the tourist high season when the area is flooded. Remember that the Gold Coast is in the Southern hemisphere so the warmest parts of the year go from December through to March. Keep in mind as well that during the high season, you can expect to pay more for accommodations and certain amenities and services.

Since the weather is so nice, you may want to spend as much time as possible outside. You can choose many different nature themed activities. Do you love whales? If so, you will love the fact that the Gold Coast has one of the longest whale watching seasons. There are other tours where you can experience the natural rain forest areas that are located in the Gold Coast region. You can also take boat tours, a plane tour of the area or even head out for an adventure in the country’s interior.

There are also more man-made attractions. If you love to get your thrills on a roller coaster, you should head to one of several theme parks in the Gold Coast region. There are also water parks and animal parks. The zoos and animal parks in the area can be a fantastic way to view many of the unusual animals and birds that call Australia home. The cities have a large number of galleries and historical attractions, and there are also sporting events including the Gold Coast Indy 300. This is a very popular car race in the area.

It is not surprising that with the beaches and the climate it has that the Gold Coast is known for its water sports. Whether you love the idea of wading out into the surf with your board and trying a wave or two, or if you simply love the thought of swimming and sunbathing, there is enough beach for everyone. The region boasts over 70 kilometers of beach. It is truly amazing when you think that Gold Coast city has 57 kilometers alone. This is not even including the canals and waterways that wind their way through the city.

Traveling to the Gold Coast can be fun for all members of the family, no matter what their interests are. You can enjoy so many activities that you might find once you get there you don’t ever want to leave.

Tamborine Mountain is about 20 kilometers inland from Bruce Highway and takes you on a route through breathtaking farming and gourmet food producing fields. Then, prior to your steep climb you will discover heritage towns and numerous National Parks.

From Oxenford, the Tamborine-Oxenford road drives past Thomas Estate Wines, a winery with a small museum and restaurant, not to mention its fabulous wines. A bit further up on this road is the Nut Shed which is a working Macadamia Farm that sells a huge range of Macadamia and other nut based products.

After a very steep climb, you will reach the Mount Tamborine Area which sits on a 600metre high Plateau in the northern spur of the McPherson Range. This area contains Queenslands first National Park, Witches Falls (1908), but only tiny patches of the areas original forest remain in nine small parks due to the incessant Cedar felling in the late 19th century.

All the areas between the park sections are filled with heritage communities of Mount Tamborine, North Tamborine and Eagle Heights which were established in the late 19th century and are now made up if art and craft shops, B & Bs, wineries and Devonshire Tea houses. The tourists flock here by the busload so watch out for them and get a spot in a cafe quick before the bus unloads!

Witches Falls National Park, southwest of North Tamborine and Cedar Creek Falls is one of the best spots to visit. Macrozamia Grove National Park is home to some of the oldest macrozamia palms. In North Tamborine, you will find a visitor centre, which has brochures on what to do and information on the ecology areas. There are also many wineries around the mountain which could lead to a very fun day.

There is also the fabulous Tamborine Mountain Distillery, a boutique distiller which manufactures its own schnapps, liqueur and other spirits from organically grown fruit. Nearby is St. Bernards Hotel, a great place for meals, drink and relaxing. It is a rustic mountain pub with a large deck with a panoramic view of the gorge.

The Cayman Islands of the Western Caribbean

South of Cuba in the heat of the western Caribbean, the three Cayman Islands are the visible summits of the Cayman Ridge, an underwater mountain range which drops suddenly into the 7,100 m (22,000 ft) Cayman Trench, separating them from Jamaica.

Grand Cayman is by far the largest. The Sister Islands of Cayman Brac and Little Cayman are mostly a wilderness of fruit trees, orchids and cacti where tranquility and an authentic West Indian culture are the main attractions. Just 145 km (90 ml) to the southwest, Grand Cayman at first resembles nothing so much as a transplanted American urban nightmare.

The capital, George Town, and Seven Mile Beach, its renowned local playground, are full of condos, resorts, satellite dishes and mini-malls. The streets teem with bankers and the faceless suits of the institutions that have made it the world’s fifth largest financial centre.

Five days a week, cruise liners decant up to 22,000 tourists, joining the millions each year whose holidays have given the Cayman Islands the eighth highest GDP per capita in the world.

George Town is so busy, loud, and determinedly up for it, you feel the privateers and pirates of former times have merely put on modern dress in their eagerness to empty your wallet.

In the small towns and villages outside George Town, the atmosphere changes immediately. Grand Cayman’s true self is African-European, deeply Christian, conservative and church-going (there are lots of churches).

The locals are openly friendly and well-mannered, laughing and hospitable. Isolated by the central mangrove wetlands -3,440 hectares (8,500 acres) of lush forests, emerald green parrots and bright orange frogfish, the mainspring of the complex ecology that maintains both the turtle grass and shrimp mounds of North Sound Marine Reserve, Rum Point typifies Grand Cayman at its best.

The Gold Coast’s Economical Holiday Options

September 9, 2009 by

You are probably aware by now that we are entering a period where cash is a going to be a little bit tighter for all of us. With record high oil prices, we are paying more and more for the petrol we need in our cars. With inflation on the rise, we spend more for the day to day necessities of life. With both interest rates and rental prices increasing, no matter if you own or rent your home, you will be paying more for it this year, than you were last year. Something has to give.

In this context, it is typical for most families to sacrifice their yearly vacation/holiday. With the going getting tough, a holiday can be seen as just one large expense. By forsaking such a trip, the rest of the year can be rendered a little more bearable and easy. INCORRECT! Missing out on the fun and relaxation of a good holiday will be likely to make you loathe the rest of your year: you’ll reach year’s end in tatters, barely having survived, no more. That’s not what we are here in this life to do. We need to live, not merely survive.

A year of hard work merits you a reward, something you can look forward to with joy and anticipation. Furthermore, it’s necessary to get away to recharge one’s batteries for the next spell of drudgery. A good holiday is in this sense another necessity of your life, not simply a luxury. Holidays are that much more important when the going gets rough, the need for some downtime and unloading bad energy is that much greater.

Despite all of this being true, there is absolutely no reason why you should end up spending a fortune on your vacation. In this article we try to point out some of the more economical vacation opportunities along the Gold Coast, opportunities liable to trim several hundreds of dollars from your holiday budget. All of that without forsaking any of the relaxation or fun such a vacation necessarily entails.

Getting there: to find cheap airfares to your destination there are a few different strategies. Here’s a look at some of them:

Reward Programs – Assuming you’re not yet a member of such programs, you should become one ASAP. Sign up for a frequent flier program and/or a credit card reward program. Go ahead and transfer the points on your credit card to your frequent flier account and cash in on the discount this affords you.

Discount Carriers – Don’t fly full service airlines. Stick to the discount carriers, and sign up to all their email newsletters. You’ll be amazed at the deals they have.

Flight Comparison Services – These kinds of services help customers narrow down a list of truly competitive pricing options for their flight, defined by a specific date range. Through such comparisons much of the fine-comb work is eliminated, meaning a simpler selection process and better results.

Staying there: Similar alternatives exist with accommodation. Remember too, the hotels know people cannot afford expensive holidays at the moment. They are discounting like crazy!

Reward programs – While not as well known, many hotels chains and booking services have reward programs. If you are a member of any of these, use your points now. If not, sign up to accumulate points for next time.

Accommodation comparison services – Search engines like these will find you the best option for the quality/price you need.

Consider other options – Hotels don’t have to be part of a vacation, as other alternatives exist. Hostels for backpackers are one option to consider for those searching for a “shared” experience. For those demanding more privacy, there are always B&Bs, holiday apartments and RV parks, all rich in cheap possibilities.

Enjoying the destination: the Gold Coast’s biggest pride has to be its many excellent surf beaches. Hence, entertainment during your vacation can be had absolutely without charge if you packed a swimsuit and towel. There is no end to the body surfing, swimming and tanning to be done.

For travelers looking for a bit of adventure, you can use the long-term surf rental services offered along the coast. The difference with the normal surf rental houses is that, given a long-term rental contract, you have access to much more reasonable and affordable rates, opening up the activity to a broader crowd.

Farther from the beach there are tons of entertainment opportunities for folks with some creativity and ability to plan ahead. For example, Australia’s east coast is always attracting free music and arts festivals (which bring big crowds with them inevitably), not to mention the cute little marketplaces and popular sporting events. For some nighttime fun, go to the Surf Life Saving Clubs for cheaper than average drinks and an opportunity to support a valid cause, all in a vibrant environment.

In light of all these opportunities, your Gold Coast vacation can be just as fun as always, and not cost you more than your budget!

Damian Papworth understands that for cheap all inclusive holidays, the Gold Coast is a sensational place. Start by buying some cheap Gold Coast accommodation, and see what your providers will throw in with the deal.
