Some ancient and marvelous buildings that have been built by our forefathers have stood the test of time. They are architectural marvels which cannot be replicated even today. Last year, the world participated in the unofficial vote for the new seven wonders of the world. Even if you didn’t pick them, there are many great historic wonders. Each of these sites are world famous, iconic, historic, and breathtaking. Here are some of the best.

Chichn Itz, Mexico- This is one of the most famous Mayan ruins in the world. This giant pyramid attracts thousands of tourist per year. It is a classical representation of Mayan architecture and the ruins around it tell us a lot about Mayan culture. This was the last temple ever to be built by the Mayan civilization.

Christ the Redeemer- In July 2007, Christ the Redeemer was named one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. This huge stature is of Jesus Christ with his arms spread wide open. It’s located on top of a hill and can be seen from everywhere in the city. The statue has his arms wide open to represent the welcoming nature of the people from Brazil.

Machu Picchu in Peru- In the 15th century, the Incan Emperor Pachactec built a city on the mountain known as Machu Picchu (“Old Mountain”). Above the Urubamba River in the Amazon jungle lies this architectural wonder that is half way up the Andes ranges. Every year, millions of people hike the four day Incan trail to reach this place. It’s a wonder achievement to what people cane accomplish if they travel around the world.

The Great Wall of China, China- The Great Wall of China was built to link existing fortifications into a united defense system to better keep invading Mongol tribes out of China. It is the largest man-made monument ever to have been built and it is disputed that it is the only one visible from space. Many thousands of people gave their lives to build this colossal construction.

There are many great places in the world worth visiting. With over 5,000 years of recorded human history, there are more than just a few great world wonders and historic sites. No matter what country you are in, you’ll find windows into our past. Make sure you visit these places and help conserve them so future generations can learn about them too.
