Trying to prepare for a holiday can be a pain; there are a variety of things you want organized and you certainly do not want to forget any essentials such as your passport or itinerary. Doing research prior to your holiday is a great idea since you have the opportunity to find deals on things such car rentals, airfare and entertainment; this is essential if you are planning on traveling to Europe as it can be pricey. Another reason you want to do your research ahead of time is that you can find some great deals on hotels and, as you are undoubtedly going to be spending several days at a time in different cities, this is a great way to save a bit of money.

If you decide to travel to Europe at the last minute you might lose out on some of the ?book ahead? deals that you might otherwise have found. Other problems can arise when you go spur of the moment. Poor planning can create late arrivals which can mess with anything you had previously booked. It is also likely that you will forget to pack your essential items which can ruin a holiday. Panic and distress can ruin a holiday before it has even begun.

If you think you may, at some point, be traveling to Europe on the spur of the moment here are a few tips to keep in mind to ensure a great holiday.

- Writing lists can literally save your holiday. Even if you have an ongoing list stored away in your brain I recommend that you actually put it all out on paper. I recommend that you plan ahead for that unexpected trip and write down what you would want to take with you if you were to suddenly head to Europe. I even suggest that you list the basics such as your passport and toiletries as these are items which are typically forgotten. Finally, put your list in a safe place where you can access it immediately if the need arises.

- Talk to friends or agents who have traveled there already. Prepare lists of discounted lodging and find out if there are any items particularly necessary for European travel (i.e. power converters). Through your discussions with others you are creating resources for when you do find yourself winging your way to Europe.

- Subscribe or get log ins to discount hotels in Europe. This means that you need to get onto their website and log yourself in regularly in order to see what deals they have. This way, you are aware of what discounts there are, so that when you get to start going to Europe and have to travel at the last minute, you can immediately log on to the website that you need and get yourself discounts on lodging.

- Find out what your current memberships offer in terms of European travel. Various credit cards offer reward points on air travel or entertainment tickets while some insurance companies have car rental discounts. Again, doing some prior research should help you get some great deals!

- Do your research either through the internet or travel magazines and read up on what are the best destinations in Europe. Familiarize yourself with some of the history as well! Prior research will definitely get you a long way to having the holiday of a lifetime!
